Music executive Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about how repeated rejection from girls during his secondary school years affected him and stayed with him into adulthood.
Speaking on the Keeping It Real With Jima podcast, the Mavin Records founder said he struggled with rejection as a teenager because he did not consider himself attractive at the time.
“I wasn’t good-looking during my secondary school days. Thank God for music because back then I was constantly being rejected by girls. But after I became successful, I went back to look for all the girls who rejected me. But almost all of them were already married,” he revealed.
Don Jazzy said the experience left a lasting impact on him psychologically, prompting him to seek out the women years later after achieving success in the music industry.
The 43-year-old is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential music executives. He co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj before launching Mavin Records in 2012 following the label’s breakup.
Through Mavin Records, Don Jazzy has played a key role in the careers of several successful artistes, including Rema, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Magixx and Boy Spyce.
Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and raised in Ajegunle, Lagos, he attended Federal Government College, Lagos, before pursuing a career in music production.
Over the years, Don Jazzy has become known for discovering and mentoring new talents, helping to shape the growth of Afrobeats both in Nigeria and internationally.
