Another group, comprising students and representatives of student association bodies, has also surfaced at the assembly in support of the nomination.

Mr Fakorede bagged a civil engineering degree in 2016. He was among three commissioner-nominees sent to the state House of Assembly for screening on Monday.

The anti-Fakorede group made up of members and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claim that Fakorede’s father defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and worked against the success of the PDP at the 2019 elections.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions on Thursday, urging lawmakers not to screen or confirm the nomination.

They said Fakorede’s nomination does not fit into the zoning arrangement in the state.

However, the pro-Fakorede group say the nominee has the capacity to deliver and represent youths well in Governor Seyi Makinde’s cabinet.
