Ibadan elders intervene in Makinde, Ladoja rift – Ajibola

Seyi Makinde

The Balogun of Ibadanland Tajudeen Ajibola has said elders in Ibadan have stepped into the dispute involving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Mr Ajibola spoke on the issue while addressing journalists at his residence in Ibadan on Friday.

Tension in the state followed claims by former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose that Makinde was planning to remove Ladoja.

The state government and the palace have denied the claim.

There have also been reports of a plot to impeach Makinde.

The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly Gbenga Oyekola has denied involvement in any such plan.

Ajibola said Ibadan elders had taken steps to address the situation and calm concerns among residents.

“I want to allay the fear of our people in Ibadanland that there is no problem between Governor Seyi Makinde and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Our elders in Ibadan have waded into the matter,” he said.

He urged Ladoja to avoid involvement in political matters and maintain the role of a traditional ruler.

“The Olubadan is a traditional ruler, and his name should not be dragged into political matters. He should be a father to all, regardless of political party,” he said.

Ajibola also said he was not part of any plan that could affect the peace of the state.

“I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements,” he said.

He added that efforts were ongoing to ensure that the situation is resolved without conflict.
