Oba Ghandi Olaoye coronation day as Soun of Ogbomoso

Dignitaries have gathered at Ogbomoso Township Stadium to witness the coronation ceremony and presentation of staff of office to Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso.

Olaoye was a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) before his ascension to the throne.

Among the dignitaries gathered for his coronation are former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and former minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed.

Also present is the former president of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Adebayo Oyero; traditional rulers, captains of industry and clerics from within and outside the country.

Traditional rulers from the five local government areas comprising the Ogbomoso geo-political zone, sons and daughters of Ogbomoso and other residents of the ancient city have also gathered at the stadium for the occasion.

On September 2, Makinde approved the selection of Ghandi of Olaoye Ruling House as the next Soun.

The Soun stool became vacant after Oba Jimoh Oyewumi died on December 12, 2021.

Ogbomoso kingmakers led by the Areago of Ogbomoso, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin, on September 8, 2023, installed Olaoye as the new Soun.

The presentation of the staff of office marks the end of the installation which began with an empowerment programme on Thursday, December 14, at Soun’s palace.

On Sunday, the general overseer of RCCG Pastor Enoch Adeboye led other clerics to an interdenominational coronation church service at Beulah Centre in Ogbomoso.
