Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election Peter Obi has congratulated Ghandi Olaoye on his ascension to the throne as the Soun of Ogbomosho.

The installation was performed last Friday by the kingmakers at Abata led by the Areago High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin.

The king is now to be addressed as Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III.

Mr Obi said via social media on Monday that Olaoye’s ascension was most deserved.

He did not comment on the prince’s position as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) prior to his appointment as monarch.

“I most heartily congratulate Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye on his installation as the Soun of Ogbomosho Land. Prince Ghandi Olaoye’s elevation to the throne of his ancestors is laudable and most deserved,” Obi wrote.

The Soun of Ogbomoso stool became vacant after Oba Jimoh Oyewumi died on December 12, 2021 at the age of 95. The king reigned for 48 years.

On Sunday, September 3, Olaoye handed over his pastoral role at the RCCG Jesus House Parish, Washington DC, United States.

Joined by his wife, Pastor Omo Ghandi-Olaoye, he handed over to Pastor Olumide Ogunjuyigbe.
