Makinde’s deputy sues Oyo Assembly over plans to impeach him

Oyo State Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan has taken legal action over plans by the state House of Assembly to impeach him.

A fortnight ago, the lawmakers initiated impeachment move against Olaniyan, who defected to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.

At the hearing on Tuesday, Olaniyan was represented at Oyo State High Court by his counsel Afolabi Fashanu.

Justice Ladiran Akintola adjourned till Wednesday, June 29, ordering that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, and the Clerk of the House be put on notice.

The lawmakers are accusing the deputy governor of financial recklessness, gross misconduct and insubordination among other allegations.

Olaniyan had also filed his response to the allegations against him. The legislators plan to discuss the matter on Wednesday, June 29.

Meanwhile, chairman of Oyo State Housing Corporation, Bayo Lawal, has been named as the running mate to Governor Seyi Makinde for the 2023 governorship election.
