Makinde visits Dokpesi’s family

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday paid a visit to the home of the late media mogul Raymond Dokpesi in Asokoro, Abuja to commiserate with the family over his death.

Dokpesi, chairman of Daar Communications and a chieftain of the PDP, fell during a routine exercise on Monday, May 29 and died.

During the visit, Makinde prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. He told the family that the late Dokpesi grew up in Ibadan, Oyo State and by extension the son of the state too, even though he is originally from Edo State.

He called on the family to continue to build on the legacies left behind by the late pioneer of private broadcasting in Nigeria.

In an Instagram post mourning Dokpesi, Makinde had said, “We are deeply saddened by the shocking news of the untimely passing of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi today. Chief Dokpesi was a respected elder statesman and member of the Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We will remember him for his patriotism, philanthropy and contributions as a pioneer in independent broadcasting in Nigeria.

“May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family, friends and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

On Wednesday, presidential candidate of the PDP in the February 25 poll Atiku Abubakar visited the bereaved family.

Accompanying the former Vice President was the entourage from the PDP national headquarters, Abuja led by the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum.

The delegation met with Dokpesi’s first son, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr, his wives, sons, daughters, and other members of his families.
