Florence Ajimobi denies link to alleged impeachment plot against Makinde

Florence Ajimobi

Former Oyo State first lady Florence Ajimobi has denied allegations linking her to a plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by her media office on Tuesday, Mrs Ajimobi said the claims were false and asked the public to disregard them.

She also denied reports that she held meetings or offered money to members of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

“At no time did I convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilising the Oyo State Government,” she said.

The statement followed claims made by the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly Gbenga Oyekola, who said the Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, told lawmakers he was approached by Ajimobi on the matter.

Mr Oyekola had said the speaker declined the offer and did not accept any money.

He also said he was not part of any meeting linked to the claims and reaffirmed his support for the state government.

Ajimobi said linking her to the allegations was an attempt to mislead the public and affect her reputation.

“Activities of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief,” she said.

She said she had not been involved in any action aimed at undermining the state government and remains committed to peace and democratic values.

Florence Ajimobi also warned against the spread of false information, stating that such reports could create tension.

She added that further action could be taken if the claims are not withdrawn.

She said she would remain focused on her humanitarian work and contributions to society.
