Content creator and actor Layi Wasabi has reacted to an old interview in which he said he does not believe in the “girlfriend phase,” admitting that his views have since changed.
In the 2024 interview on the podcast Is This Seat Taken? hosted by Chinasa Anukam, Layi explained that he preferred to approach relationships with marriage in mind from the outset.
“I don’t believe in the concept of a girlfriend. I believe in partnership. I don’t believe in that phase of girlfriends. I start with courtship. I have to see the wife in the person from the beginning,” he said.
However, reacting to the clip on Wednesday on X, the skit maker suggested that his experience in Lagos dating had changed his perspective.
“lool na this mentality i use enter lagos dating pool. dem wan kill me. abeg i no dey try see wife in the beginning again o. thanks,” he wrote.
Layi gained prominence through his comedy skits on social media, where he is known for his lawyer themed persona and satirical takes on everyday situations.
His online success earned him the Best Online Content Creator award at the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Beyond skit making, he has moved into acting, appearing in projects such as Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre and Everybody Loves Jenifa, as well as other film and television productions in Nollywood.
