Former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas has backed Desmond Elliot amid the controversy surrounding his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Desmond, who represents Surulere Constituency I, had on Sunday alleged intimidation ahead of the All Progressives Congress direct primaries scheduled for May 20. In a video shared on his X page, the actor-turned-politician claimed that some of his supporters were being threatened and that his security aides had been withdrawn.

Reacting on Instagram on Monday, Rollas reposted the video and expressed support for the lawmaker.

“I lend my voice to Hon Desmond Elliott who in my own opinion deserves a 4th term.

“I lived in Surulere from 1993 to 2023 and I can testify that all serving reps both Federal and State have served more term than Desmond so why the issue about his 4th term bid?

“Allow a free and fair direct primaries and let’s see if he wont get the ticket💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

“@desmondelliot”

Rollas also appealed to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to forgive Desmond over any past disagreements.

“@speakergbaja Sir Desmond is your boy he has apologized please pardon him let’s this be a last warning sir.

👌👌👌👌👌👌👌”

In the viral video, Desmond accused some APC leaders in Surulere of coercing party members to support another aspirant ahead of the primaries. He also alleged that some local government officials lost their positions because of their support for him.

The lawmaker further claimed that his security personnel were withdrawn without explanation.

“My security personnel were taken away from me yesterday for reasons best known to them. Now I am left alone to myself. What have I done?” he said.

Desmond appealed to party leaders to ensure a peaceful and transparent primary election, saying he would support whoever emerges winner if the process is free and fair.
