Aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly Barakat Odunuga-Bakare has explained that her decision to contest is driven by her desire to address the needs of people in the constituency.

Mrs Odunuga-Bakare, a lawyer and former special adviser on housing to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.

According to her, the constituency needs a representative who can connect with residents at the grassroots and attract development to the area.

“My mission is to offer legislative representation that centres on the growing needs of the people of Surulere in terms of security, education access, sports, welfare for the elderly, empowerment, entrepreneurship and infrastructural development,” she said.

She added that she would maintain regular interaction with constituents through town hall meetings and also focus on youth empowerment, support for businesses and welfare programmes for the elderly if elected.

Odunuga-Bakare, who previously served as leader of the Surulere Legislative Council, said she had the experience and grassroots connection needed to represent the constituency.

She thanked party leaders, stakeholders and residents of Surulere for supporting her aspiration.

The aspirant also appreciated the chief of staff to the president Femi Gbajabiamila, Surulere Local Government chairman Sulaiman Yusuf and other party leaders for endorsing her bid.

Odunuga-Bakare urged her supporters to remain focused ahead of the APC primary scheduled for May 20 and the general election.

She recently met with youths in Surulere to discuss their concerns and her plans for the constituency.

Members of the Converge of the People Foundation also declared support for her during a meeting where Lateefat Gbajabiamila prayed for her.

Barakat Odunuga-Bakare is seeking to represent Surulere Constituency I, currently represented by Desmond Elliot, who is seeking a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
