Group CEO of United Capital Group Peter Ashade has been inaugurated as the 2nd Vice President of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
Mr Ashade announced the development in an Instagram post on Monday following the investiture of the institute’s 24th president and chairman of the council.
“I am deeply honored to be inaugurated as the 2nd Vice President of Council of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), following the Presidential Investiture of the Institute’s 24th President and Chairman of Council,” he wrote.
He added that he looked forward to working with the institute’s president and council members to promote professionalism, ethics and leadership in the banking sector.
Ashade also thanked colleagues, partners and friends who supported him throughout his career.
“I am excited for the work ahead and the opportunity to help shape the future of our industry,” he added.
In September 2024, Ashade was named among Nigeria’s top chief executives at the BusinessDay Top CEOs Awards held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ashade became group chief executive of United Capital in 2018. Since then, the company has expanded from four subsidiaries to seven businesses across Nigeria and West Africa.
According to information released about the award, the company’s funds under management increased from N75.68 billion in 2018 to N1.10 trillion by December 2023.
Peter Ashade has worked in Nigeria’s financial sector for more than 34 years, including over 20 years as chief executive of financial institutions.
He studied banking and finance at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), finance at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and marketing at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Capital Market Registrars.
