Oyekola distances self from alleged plot against Makinde

Gbenga Oyekola

The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly Gbenga Oyekola has distanced himself from an alleged plan to work against Governor Seyi Makinde.

Mr Oyekola made this known in a statement on Tuesday following a meeting of lawmakers at the Government House.

He said it was discovered at the meeting that some individuals were working to create division between the House of Assembly and the state government.

According to him, the Speaker of the House Adebo Ogundoyin, had earlier met with the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Rashidi Ladoja after seeking support for his governorship ambition.

Oyekola said the speaker disclosed that during the meeting, the monarch advised him and offered to help him secure a House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with funds for the election.

He said the speaker declined the offer.

The lawmaker added that the speaker was also approached by the former first lady of the state Florence Ajimobi, on the same matter.

According to him, the speaker said he was offered money but did not accept it.

Oyekola said he was not part of any meeting or arrangement linked to the claims.

“I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements,” he said.

He said he remains loyal to the governor and the state government.

“I remain committed to the peace and unity of Oyo State,” he added.
