Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, on Friday arrived at the venue of the 2026 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The festival, which takes place on the third day after Eid-el-Kabir, drew thousands of residents, visitors, politicians, entertainers and members of the Nigerian diaspora to celebrate Ijebu culture and tradition.
Different regberegbe age-grade groups arrived at the venue in coordinated traditional attire, taking part in parades, dances and cultural displays at the Awujale Palace grounds.
This year’s edition was held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Adetona, who died in July last year after reigning for 65 years.
The theme of the 2026 edition is “Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona.”
Among those present at the event was businessman Aliko Dangote, while finance executive Farooq Oreagba arrived on horseback dressed in a white agbada with purple embroidery.
Actress Eniola Badmus was also among the guests at the festival.
Ojude Oba, which means “the king’s forecourt” in Yoruba, started in the late 19th century as a gathering of early Muslim converts who paid homage to the Awujale for allowing religious freedom.
Over the years, the event has grown into a cultural gathering attended by people from different backgrounds and religions.
The festival is also known for its display of Yoruba fashion, music and cultural performances.
Organisers said the annual event continues to contribute to tourism and business activities in Ogun State as it attracts visitors, vendors and corporate sponsors from within and outside Nigeria.
