The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State Bola Oyebamiji has visited the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi to seek royal blessings ahead of the August 15, governorship election.
Mr Oyebamiji made the visit on Monday at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, where he said his ambition is based on service, accountability and commitment to the development of the state.
“We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign,” he said.
“I will not betray the trust of the people and will work for the progress of Ife and Osun State.”
He said the visit followed advice from President Bola Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before starting his campaign.
“I informed Mr President of my intention to visit your palace, and he advised me to do so, stressing the importance of blessings from this throne,” he said.
Oyebamiji said Ile-Ife remains important in Yoruba history and leadership, adding that leaders draw guidance from the city.
In his response, the Ooni said traditional rulers remain neutral in politics and belong to all.
“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key, and grievances must be resolved through dialogue,” he said.
He also said leaders should justify the prayers and blessings they receive through their actions.
“After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” he added.
The APC candidate was accompanied by his running mate Kayode Adereti, Osun APC chairman Tajudeen Lawal and other party leaders.
The delegation was received by the Ooni alongside other traditional rulers, including the Alapomu of Apomu Oba Kayode Afolabi, who offered prayers for a peaceful election.
