Musician and entertainer Eedris Abdulkareem has commended Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo after touring projects in the state and securing the reopening of a sealed event centre.
The visit was revealed in a video shared by the governor on Facebook on Monday.
“Today, I personally drove Idris Abdulkareem around Edo Central as we inspected ongoing projects firsthand, connecting directly with the people where it matters most. It is always good when people come to see things for themselves.
“For me, this has always been about people first. I made a promise to leave Edo better than I met it, and every step we take is guided by that responsibility. This is what practical governance looks like,” he wrote.
In the video, Eedris is seen accompanying the governor on inspection of projects in Edo Central Senatorial District, where he praised efforts to improve the state.
The musician said, “I came to see for myself if Edo is truly working, and I must say the governor has done a lot. I have gone round and seen several projects. In the next one or two years, the achievements will be even more evident.”
He also spoke about an event centre that was closed after he performed there, thanking the governor for reopening it.
“ Secondly, to plead with the governor to reopen the event center that was locked down last week after my event. And His Excellency has done that. Thank you so much. I appreciate you,” he said.
Edo commissioner for information and strategy Kassim Afegbua also praised the governor.
“As a governor, he has the love of the people at heart. Before you came to town, his excellency when he heard that that event center was locked, immediately opened it within 24 hours. And that is to tell you that he has a listening ear. Initially, he wasn’t even aware that that was the whole story. It was a different security report they gave him. By the time he got fully briefed of what happened, he said no, no, no, no. Thhey should go and open it,” he said.
On his part, Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to improving the state.
The governor said his administration remains focused on delivering development in infrastructure, education and healthcare, driven by increased federal allocations under President Bola Tinubu.
“Eedris, thank you for coming to Edo State. When I say we will deliver 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu, people doubt it. But today, you have seen for yourself how people are coming out because of what we are doing,” he said.
According to him, the state government is using federal allocations to deliver roads, schools and healthcare facilities aimed at improving living conditions.
The development comes days after the Edo State Government sealed Mega Hub, an event centre and eatery, following a party held on April 3 tagged ‘Mega Rave: A night with the legends.’
The venue hosted several artistes including Eedris Abdulkareem. During his performance, the musician paused to criticise the administration of President Tinubu, drawing attention online.
The sealing of the centre sparked reactions on social media, with discussions around regulation of public events and freedom of expression.
