I endured years of emotional pain over delay in having children – Ooni

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has spoken about the pressure and criticism he faced over delays in having children after becoming monarch.

The traditional ruler made the remarks while receiving visitors at his palace in Ile-Ife following the birth of twin princes by one of his wives, Olori Mariam.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the palace’s director of media and public affairs Moses Olafare the monarch said some people mocked him during the period.

“I thank God today. There is nothing God cannot do,” the Ooni said.

Oba Ogunwusi said efforts were made at the time to persuade his former wife to relocate to Ile-Ife, with traditional rulers and other personalities involved in the discussions, but the move did not happen.

The monarch also said he became a father at the age of 19 and described the experience as a difficult period in his life.

According to him, his mother encouraged him to remain focused and hardworking despite the challenges.

The Ooni thanked First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support over the years, saying she stood by him during difficult moments.

He also thanked visitors to the palace for their prayers and support, adding that Olori Mariam sent her greetings to them.

Speaking during the visit, Chief Imam of Ifeland Abdulsemiu Abdulhammed said members of the Muslim community and other groups came to celebrate with the monarch.

“We have come to rejoice with Kabiyesi,” he said.

Visitors to the palace included members of the Ife Muslim Community, Hausa Community, traditional rulers from Ife North, members of the Giesi Ruling House, businesspeople and cultural groups.
