Jeff Duru to chair Supernews conference, Idu Okeahialam to deliver keynote

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc Jeff Duru, will chair the 2026 annual conference and 10th anniversary celebration of Supernews Nigeria.

Supernews announced in a statement that the event will hold on July 7 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Exchange Plc Idu Okeahialam will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which is in its fourth edition.

The conference is themed, “Local Content and Digitisation: Building Synergy Between Oil and Gas and Insurance Sectors for Inclusive Growth.”

According to the organisers, the event will bring together regulators, industry operators, policymakers, civil society organisations, media practitioners, students and other stakeholders.

The Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) Olusegun Omosehin is expected to attend as special guest of honour.

President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) Ekeoma Ezeibe is also expected at the event.

Other speakers include Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Insurance Akinjide Orimolade, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinea Insurance Plc Ademola Abidogun, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Deepshores Energy Limited Nneka Obi and Olajide Fadun of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science, University of Lagos.

Publisher of Supernews Nigeria and convener of the conference Ngozi Onyeakusi said the theme was chosen to examine how technology can strengthen collaboration between the oil and gas and insurance sectors.

She noted that Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act require operators in the oil and gas sector to insure their risks through insurance companies and brokers registered in Nigeria.

She added that operators seeking to place insurance risks offshore must obtain approval from NAICOM after it has been established that local capacity has been exhausted.

According to Mrs Onyeakusi, the conference will provide a platform for discussions on digitisation, policy reforms and the implementation of local content guidelines to support cooperation between the oil and gas and insurance industries.
