Music star Davido has responded to criticism over his relationship with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that he is not affiliated with any political group.
The singer made the clarification on X in the late hours of Saturday after expressing concern about what he described as the silence of entertainers on issues affecting Nigerians.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers, we dey fuck up, I wouldn’t lie, including me. We need to speak up, it’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he wrote.
His comment sparked reactions online, with one user accusing him of being performative because of his friendship with Seyi Tinubu and alleging that he belonged to a City Boys group chat.
The user wrote: “Na God go punish you and your family. Go and do that performative rubbish in your City Boys group chat and get tf out of my face with all this pretentious nonsense. Na foolish Nigerians I blame”.
Responding, Davido denied being part of any City Boys group and said his friendship with Seyi Tinubu does not prevent him from speaking up when necessary.
“I no Dey part of any city boy group 2. When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me 3. I’ve been friends with ST for years, and that’s where it stops, and I call and complain to him all the time, even in person 4 . God Punish ur generation,” he replied.
Davido’s comments come amid growing public debate over insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria, with many citizens urging celebrities and other influential figures to use their platforms to address national issues.
The singer has previously spoken on political matters and has occasionally drawn attention for his interactions with politicians, including members of the ruling administration. His latest remarks, however, suggest he does not see his friendship with Seyi Tinubu as a barrier to criticising government policies or expressing concerns about the state of the country.
