The CityBoy Movement has denied claims that Seyi Tinubu made comments suggesting that God could not stop his father, President Bola Tinubu, from completing two terms in office.
In a statement signed on Monday by its deputy director-general for communication and public affairs, O’tega Ogra, the group said Tinubu never insulted or questioned God.
The statement followed a viral social media post attributed to a Facebook user identified as Albab Abdullahi, who alleged that Tinubu said nothing, “not even God,” could stop his father from completing eight years in office.
The group said the claim was false and aimed at creating religious tension. “For the avoidance of doubt, Barr. Seyi Tinubu did not make the statement credited to him. He has never made such a statement at any time, in any place, through any channel, or under any circumstance whatsoever,” the statement said.
The movement stated that Tinubu believes that power comes from God and that political ambitions can only succeed through God’s will.
“He has never insulted, mocked, questioned or diminished the supremacy of Almighty God or Allah, and will never do so,” the statement added.
According to the group, the viral publication was intended to damage his image and mislead the public.
The movement also said Seyi Tinubu remained committed to mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 but acknowledged that political success depended on God.
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the social media post.
