A viral social media post claiming that Seyi Tinubu said nothing, including God, could stop his father from completing eight years in office has been denied by the CityBoy Movement.
The claim began circulating after a Facebook user identified as Albab Abdullahi alleged that Seyi Tinubu made a “blasphemous” comment in support of President Bola Tinubu’s reported 2027 re-election ambition.
“There is nothing that can stop my father from completing his eight years in power. Not even God is capable,” the Facebook user accused Seyi of saying.
However, the post did not state when, where or under what circumstances the alleged comment was made.
In a statement issued on Monday, the CityBoy Movement said the claim was false.
The statement, signed by deputy director general for communication and public affairs O’tega Ogra described the publication as “deliberately inflammatory” and aimed at provoking religious tension.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Barr. Seyi Tinubu did not make the statement credited to him. The attribution is entirely false, malicious in intent, reckless in circulation and dangerous in consequence,” the statement read.
The group also rejected suggestions that Seyi Tinubu would make comments disrespecting God or religion.
“Barr. Seyi Tinubu is a man of faith who holds deep reverence for Almighty God. He believes firmly that all power belongs to God alone and that no man can attain, retain or exercise authority except by the grace, mercy and permission of the Almighty,” it stated.
According to the movement, Seyi Tinubu remains committed to supporting his father politically but has never placed politics above religious belief.
“He has never insulted, mocked, questioned or diminished the supremacy of Almighty God or Allah, and will never do so,” the statement added.
The group urged Nigerians to disregard the viral claim and cautioned social media users against sharing unverified information.
