Funke Akindele: Shehu Sani calls for gentle treatment of lockdown violators

Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has said that violators of the social distancing order placed by various state governments in the country should be treated with civility.

Sani’s comments follow the arraignment of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, and her husband, JJC Skillz, for hosting a party at their residence in Lagos despite government’s order violating large gatherings in order to check the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Without mentioning the actress’s name, Sani said in a tweet on Monday that the breaches of curfews for a pandemic should be treated differently from those imposed for coups, civil strife and insurrections.

“The breaches of Curfews for a pandemic should not be like breaches of curfews imposed for Coups, civil strife or insurrections,” he said.

“Violators should be treated with civility & continuously enlightened to respect the directives being given.”

He added: “As you treat those who brought or caught the virus with courtesy and respect, treat those inconvenienced by its remedial and preventive measures with utmost courtesy and highest respect for their sacrificial pains.”

Funke and her husband have pleaded guilty to one count charge filed against them by the state government.
