Ruger opens up on missed Funke Akindele offer

Afrobeats singer Ruger has spoken about missing an opportunity to appear in a film by filmmaker Funke Akindele.

Ruger shared the experience during an interview with media personality VJ Adams, saying he only discovered the message after it was too late.

According to him, Funke often enjoys his songs, and he had planned to send her a message to appreciate her support. However, he later found that she had earlier reached out to him on social media to ask if he was interested in a movie role.

The singer said missing the message left him upset.

He said, “I am interested in acting and wouldn’t mind going into the movie industry. I once missed a DM from Funke Akindele for a movie role. I didn’t even see it on time. That one still pains me.

“However, I think acting would be difficult for me because I don’t like shooting. But I would get into character still. If my character is interesting, yeah.”

Ruger rose to prominence in 2021 after signing with Jonzing World, a label linked to D’Prince. He gained attention with his debut single “Bounce,” which became a hit and introduced his sound.

He has since released projects including Pandemic and The Second Wave, with songs like ‘Dior,’ ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Asiwaju’ gaining wide attention. Ruger’s music blends Afrobeats and dancehall, helping him build a growing audience within and outside Nigeria.
