Comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has reflected on the life lessons he took away from the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, AY described the event, held on Wednesday night, as a powerful reminder that no one is guaranteed tomorrow.
“Last night was a powerful reminder that no one is promised tomorrow. The Service of Songs for @alexxekubo was filled with love, reflection and heartfelt tributes. The turnout alone spoke volumes about the impact he made and the lives he touched,” he wrote.
According to the comedian, one message stood out clearly from the tributes shared at the event.
“Listening to the messages shared, one lesson stood out clearly: life is too short for grudges, bitterness and unresolved differences. We must learn to love more, forgive more and cherish the people around us while we still can.
“Saying goodbye was difficult, but seeing how much Alex was loved brought comfort to many of us,” he added.
AY also revealed that family, friends and loved ones would gather again in Arochukwu, Abia State, for Ekubo’s final burial rites.
“In a few days, we will gather again in Arochukwu to accompany our brother on his final journey home.
“Rest well, Alex. Your memories, your laughter and your legacy will remain with us forever,” he wrote.
The service of songs took place at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, and was attended by several members of the entertainment industry, including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Nancy Isime, IK Ogbonna, Stan Nze and other colleagues who came to pay their respects.
Alexx died on May 11 after a battle with kidney cancer, according to his family. His funeral programme continues with a wake on June 17 at his family home in Arochukwu, while the funeral service and interment are scheduled for June 18.
The actor rose to prominence after emerging first runner up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition and went on to build a successful career in Nollywood, featuring in films and television productions that earned him a wide fan base.
