Williams Uchemba declines details on Alexx Ekubo’s private life during interview

Actor Williams Uchemba has declined to speak further about the marital status and children of late actor Alexx Ekubo during an interview with Afia TV.

In the interview, Williams disclosed that Alexx got married before his death and also became closer to God after stepping away from social media in 2024.

He said, “What Alexx has achieved in 40 years, some 90 years old have not achieved it. He tried not to let negative things get to him. When he left the social media in 2024, he became close to God. He was someone that even if something was hurting him, he would not come out to cry. He didn’t want people to pity him. It took a while before we knew how serious his sickness was Alex was married before he passed away but I don’t want to go into full details. I believe it is the family that should let the public know. Concerning if he had a child, I will let his immediate family put that out. Let me respect his wish to keep his life private.”

However, when the interviewer pressed for more details about Alexx Ekubo’s marital status, Williams maintained that it was not his place to speak on the matter.

He said, “It’s not my place to speak on it.”

His response has drawn praise from some fans online, with many commending him for respecting the late actor’s privacy.

Alexx Ekubo died on May 11 at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer, according to a statement released by his family.

The family said he died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after what they described as a brief battle with the illness.

In the statement shared on his Instagram page, the family described him as their “beloved husband, son, brother and friend,” confirming publicly for the first time that the actor had a wife. They also requested privacy while funeral arrangements are being made.

Before his death, Alexx had largely stayed away from the spotlight, leading to speculation about his health and personal life. He was known for films such as Weekend Getaway, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and several romantic dramas in Nollywood.
