Actor Uzor Arukwe has won the Best Lead Actor award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his role in the epic drama Colours of Fire.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, where Uzor emerged winner in a category that included Lateef Adedimeji for Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, William Benson for To Kill a Monkey, Kanayo O. Kanayo for Grandpa Must Obey, Femi Branch for Red Circle and others.
In Colours of Fire, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, Uzor played Akinbode, a Yoruba warrior sent to hunt a dangerous beast believed to have been released by rival clans. The film also stars Osas Ighodaro, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch and Gabriel Afolayan.
His performance received praise for combining physical strength with emotional depth, marking a departure from the “Odogwu” characters he is often associated with onscreen.
The win marks Uzor’s first AMVCA trophy. He also earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Behind the Scenes, making him one of the actors with multiple acting nominations at this year’s ceremony.
Colours of Fire, produced by Anthill Studios, also won Best Costume Design, with Valerie Okeke taking home the prize.
In his acceptance speech, Uzor thanked the film’s director and fellow nominees, describing the award as “a testament to the power of telling African stories with heart and fire.”
