Comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha sparked reactions at the 2026 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) after recreating the viral moment involving actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
During their hosting segment at the ceremony on Saturday, the duo dramatised the controversial snub scene that trended online following the premiere of The Return of Arinzo.
In the skit-like moment on stage, Mbatha acted as Funke Akindele while Bovi, who acted as Toyin Abraham, jokingly referenced the viral controversy.
“Aunty, aunty Funke… mtcheeww. If I ever present award to you, call me bastard,” Bovi said jokingly, sending the audience into laughter.
A viral video from the premiere of The Return of Arinzo appeared to show Funke ignoring Toyin during greetings at the event held at Balmoral Event Centre.
In the clip, Toyin had greeted actress Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe and others before approaching Funke, who appeared not to acknowledge her.
The incident generated widespread debate online.
The moment recreated by Bovi and Mbatha quickly drew reactions on social media, with many viewers describing it as one of the comic highlights of the night.
This year’s AMVCA marked a major change for the award show as Bovi and Mbatha took over hosting duties from IK Osakioduwa, who had anchored the ceremony since its debut in 2013. The 12th edition of the awards was held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
