Tinubu appoints OAU prof Segun Aina new JAMB registrar

Professor Segun Aina JAMB registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

A statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said Prof. Aina would succeed Ishaq Oloyede whose second term ends on July 31.

The Presidency described Aina as a systems expert with experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector reform.

“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement said.

Aina is a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

He holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent and earned both a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the statement, Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions and data management processes.

The Presidency said he has spent more than 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reforms and system design.

“He began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes. These insights have shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform and systems optimisation,” the statement added.

Segun Aina has also worked as a consultant to examination bodies including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board on ICT systems and examination integrity.

He previously served in different technology roles, including work in digital infrastructure and network systems.

The statement added that Aina is a member of professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu said he expects the new registrar to build on the work done under Oloyede’s administration.

“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement said.
