From corper to registrar: Meet Segun Aina, 39-year-old new JAMB registrar

Professor Segun Aina JAMB registrar

When Segun Aina was named the next registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), attention quickly turned to the academic and technology expert who will take over from Ishaq Oloyede on July 31.

Aina, who turns 40 in July, is expected to become the youngest registrar in the history of the examination body.

Before his appointment, Aina built a career across academics, technology and public sector consultancy.

He studied in the United Kingdom, earning a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent before moving to Loughborough University for his master’s degree and doctorate.

His areas of study included Internet Computing, Network Security and Digital Signal Processing.
Back in Nigeria, he attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Although he is now set to lead JAMB, Aina’s connection with the board started years ago during his National Youth Service Corps programme, where he worked with the examination body.

The Presidency said the experience gave him early exposure to admissions processes and institutional data systems.

Aina later moved into academics and became a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University at 39.

Outside the classroom, he has worked with government agencies and examination bodies on technology and system reforms.

His consultancy roles included projects with the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and some state ministries of education.

In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an IT and engineering project management company.

Segun Aina is also affiliated with professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

He has also published journal and conference papers in computer engineering and related fields.
