Singer Tems has made history as the first Nigerian female artiste to peak at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, beating her senior colleagues Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade.

The American music chart tweeted this on Monday, announcing that the song ‘Wait For U’ by American rapper Future which also features Drake and Tems has hit number one on the music chart.

Celebrating her latest achievement, the ‘Essence’ star retweeted the post.

Tems and pop star Wizkid are the only Nigerian artistes to ever peak at number one on the Billboard charts.

The 26-year-old also made history as the first female Nigerian to win the NAACP Image Award.

The music star won the Outstanding International Song and Best Music Video categories for the hit song ‘Essence’, a collaboration with Wizkid at this year’s award.
