Wizkid makes history with 11 billion Spotify streams

Wizkid

Singer Wizkid has made global music history after becoming the first African artiste to surpass 11 billion streams across all credits on Spotify.

The milestone strengthens his position among the most streamed African musicians of all time, driven by a steady rise over the past decade through hit records, international collaborations, and widely streamed projects.

His streaming figures have been boosted by global successes such as ‘One Dance’ with Drake and Kyla, as well as tracks from his catalogue including ‘Essence’ featuring Tems and his project Made in Lagos (Deluxe).

The achievement comes after he previously became the first African artiste to reach 10 billion Spotify streams earlier in 2026, showing continued growth on the platform.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, is a Grammy Award winner and one of the leading figures in Afrobeats global expansion. He has also earned international recognition through major collaborations and performances at some of the world’s biggest venues, helping to push Afrobeats further into mainstream global markets.

He also runs Starboy Entertainment, a label that has supported emerging Afrobeats talents and contributed to the genre’s international reach.
