Sunday Igboho buries mum in Oyo

Sunday Igboho Adeyemo

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Friday buried his mother in Igboho Town, Oyo State.

The activist’s mother S. A. Adeyemo died in July 2023.

Traditional rulers were among those who witnessed the funeral.

Sunday Igboho held the wake for his mother on Thursday. A former member of the House of Representatives Shina Peller was present at the wake.

“I was with my brother @sunday_igboho1 in Igboho for the wake keeping service of our beloved mother, Mrs. S. A. Adeyemo,” Peller wrote on Instagram.

“I pray God gives her family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss and may her soul rest in peace. Amen!”

Sunday Igboho began a campaign to chase alleged killer herdsmen and kidnappers out of the south-west and also called on the Yoruba in the north, south-east and other parts of the country to return home.

He clashed with the Nigerian government in March 2021 when he declared the Yoruba Nation’s sovereignty.

In April, Nigerian forces invaded his home in Ibadan, arresting his men and accusing him of stockpiling arms.

The agitator fled Nigeria and was later arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration unsuccessfully attempted to repatriate him to Nigeria.

However, in October 2023, Sunday Igboho revealed that he was legally free to leave Cotonou. He then travelled to Germany.
