Osoba, Momodu, others attend Shola Oshunkeye’s colloquium, book launch at 70

Former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba, chairman of Ovation Media Group Dele Momodu and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland Gani Adams were among guests at a colloquium and book launch held in honour of veteran journalist Shola Oshunkeye.

The event took place on Thursday at the Sir Kessington Adebutu Media Resource Centre of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos.

It was organised to mark Mr Oshunkeye’s 70th birthday.

Other attendees included the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland Clement Haastrup, former Osun State deputy governor and former minister of state Olusola Agbeja-Obada, the Orangun of Oke Ila Adedokun Abolarin, publisher of QEDNG Olumide Iyanda, publisher of Yes International Magazine Azuh Arinze, former managing director of New Telegraph and former Osun State commissioner for information Funke Egbemode, publisher of RealNews magazine Maureen Chigbo and former presidential spokesman Femi Adesina, among others.

Shola Oshunkeye, chief executive officer of The Crest Online, turned 70 on Monday, April 20.

He is a fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and has worked in several news organisations.
He served as editor of Weekend Concord, senior associate editor at TELL magazine and later general editor at The Sun Group.

He also worked as managing director and editor-in-chief of The Sun Publishing Ghana Limited.

Born in Ilesa, Osun State, Oshunkeye began his journalism career in 1989 at Concord Press of Nigeria, owned by Moshood Abiola. He worked at Weekend Concord under Mike Awoyinfa and later became editor.

At TELL magazine, he worked as an investigative journalist and later served as bureau chief and State House correspondent in Abuja, covering the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo between 2001 and 2005.

He won the CNN Multichoice African Journalist of the Year award in 2006.
