Olamide justifies singing about money ritual in Logo Benz

Afropop singer Olamide has justified the lyrics of the song ‘Logo Benz’ which has been criticised for promoting cybercrime and money ritual.

Borrowing from the desperation of some young Nigerians to get rich quick, the song by Lil Kesh plays on criminals stealing ladies’ pants and women who sell their bodies for money.

With critics calling for the boycott of his forthcoming concert in Lagos, Olamide took to Twitter on Friday to he was only raising awareness about goings on in the society.

“Logo Benz is for the 3rd party to have a glimpse into the current state of youths in our society (Runs girls x runs boys). “I’m not sure if there’s anything like 2 much awareness, but pardon me if there is. It’s all over the news, it’s always been in movies, don’t box musicians,” he wrote.

His protégé Lil Kesh had earlier dismissed criticism of the song with a rather undignified statement that women should hang their pants at their own risk.

This is not the first time Olamide will be accused of promoting social vices with his music.

Critics said he promoted rape culture ‘Story for the Gods’, substance abuse with ‘Science Student’ and advance fee fraud with ‘Poverty Die’.

The backlash that followed the release of ‘Science Student’ forced him to do a video saying no to drug abuse.
