Governor Monday Okpebholo has granted full educational scholarships for the three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, who died in active service.
The Edo State Government said the scholarship will cover the children’s education from their current levels up to university.
The decision was announced on Thursday in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Patrick Ebojele.
The beneficiaries are aged between 12 and 18. They include Farida Hussain-Braimah, an undergraduate; Amir Hussain-Braimah, a secondary school student and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, a junior secondary school pupil.
Governor Okpebholo said the state decided to support the family of the late officer and ensure the children continue their education.
“Brigadier General Braimah paid the price in service to this country. It is right that we support the family he left behind and ensure his children have access to education,” he said.
He added that the state will continue to support the family.
The governor said the initiative is part of efforts to support families of military personnel who die in service.
He also called on other state governments and private organisations to provide support for such families, especially in education.
General Braimah died during military operations in Borno State.
He was among soldiers killed on April 9 when armed groups attacked military positions in Benisheikh along the Maiduguri–Damaturu road.
He was buried with military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
His death drew reactions from public officials, including Bola Tinubu and military authorities, who paid tribute to his service.
The Edo State Government said the scholarship aligns with its plan on education and social support and aims to ensure that children of fallen officers are not left without access to schooling.
