Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, Senator Ganiyu Solomon and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro have expressed support for Lagos State deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat over his governorship ambition.
The support was given on Thursday during visits by Mr Hamzat to party leaders as part of consultations ahead of the 2027 election.
Hamzat visited the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, where he met party leaders led by Cornelius Ojelabi. He also visited Obasa and Solomon.
Speaking during the visit, Obasa said Hamzat would emerge as the party’s candidate.
“I had discussions with those who matter, and the conclusion is that Hamzat will carry the party’s banner,” he said.
“We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure that we win the election.”
Solomon called on party members to support the party during the election.
Hamzat, while addressing party leaders, said Lagos plays a key role in Nigeria and must continue to progress.
“If Lagos fails, Nigeria will have problems, and we must not fail,” he said.
He added that the party must secure victory in the next election.
“We must ensure that what happened in 2023 should not happen again in 2027. We must ensure victory for our leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in the next election, and a similar victory for APC in Lagos,” he said.
Hamzat also said his consultations were focused on governance and continuity.
“Lagos is a collective project. My consultations are not about personal ambition but about ensuring continuity and development for our people,” he said.
Ojelabi said the party supports Hamzat’s ambition.
“We support you and we are confident in you,” he said.
Obanikoro said Hamzat has the capacity to lead the state.
