Jamil Abubakar, son-in-law of Aliko Dangote, has been appointed managing director of infrastructure and logistics at the Dangote Group.
His appointment took effect on April 20, placing him in charge of the group’s ports and trade-related infrastructure operations.
He will report to Mr Dangote and oversee expansion into new infrastructure assets across Nigeria and other African countries.
Announcing the appointment, Dangote said Mr Abubakar would lead the group’s logistics platform under its Vision 2030 plan.
“As we pursue our Vision 2030 agenda, Mr Abubakar will lead the Group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform,” he said.
Dangote added that the company expects his leadership to support expansion across its logistics operations.
Jamil Abubakar began his career as a pilot and has worked in the aviation sector for over 14 years.
He has worked with IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle and XE Jets and served as chief pilot at Azman Air and NG Eagle.
He is married to Fatima Dangote, a director in the group.
Abubakar is also the son of former Inspector General of police Mohammed Abubakar.
His appointment follows changes in February that placed members of the Dangote family in key roles.
Halima Dangote was appointed group executive director to oversee international operations, while Fatima Dangote leads commercial operations in the oil and gas unit.
Mariya Dangote oversees commercial strategy across the cement and food businesses.
The group said it is expanding investment in infrastructure to support trade and distribution across Africa.
Dangote Group operates in sectors including cement, fertiliser, sugar and refining.
