NYSC member drowns 12 days to passing-out in Bayelsa

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa has drowned just 12 days to the end of his service year.

Oluwafemi Mark, 28, posted to Nembe-Bassambiri in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa, died at a beach party with friends.

The incident is said to have occurred at Miami Beach in Nembe-Basambiri.

Bayelsa police spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, said on Friday that the incident occurred on February 22.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, who personally attended the passing-out parade of the 2019 Batch A set of corps members at the Peace Park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital on Thursday, commiserated with the NYSC and family of the deceased.

He also stressed the need for stakeholders to intensify their efforts at ensuring the safety of corps members in the state.

Mr Diri also called on corps members posted to Bayelsa to be good ambassadors of the state, describing Bayelsans as very ‘hospitable, peaceful and friendly’.
