Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey led worship on Wednesday at the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alexx Ekubo.
The event took place at Monarch Event Centre in Lekki. Other gospel ministers who ministered are Mercy Chinwo and Moses Bliss.
Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs were also in attendance.
Actors and entertainers including Stan Nze, IK Ogbonna, Nancy Isime and Segun Arinze were among those who paid tribute to the late actor.
Several celebrities also attended in white attire, following the family’s dress code for the ceremony. Those present included Ini Edo, Ayo Makun, Omoni Oboli, Ruth Kadiri, Kate Henshaw, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Uti Nwachukwu, Bambam, Chigul and others.
The family had earlier released the burial arrangements in a statement. They said the service of songs would hold on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, with a white dress code. A wake keep is scheduled for Wednesday, 17 June, while burial and interment will take place on Thursday, 18 June, in his hometown in Abia State. A reception will follow after the burial.
Alexx Ekubo died on 11 May at the age of 40 after a battle with cancer. His family said he passed away following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer at Evercare Hospital.
Before his death was confirmed, there had been public concern about his absence from social media, as he had not been active on Instagram since 2024. Actress Oma Nnadi had earlier addressed the speculation, urging the public not to spread concerns about his wellbeing and noting that not everyone needed to be active online.
