Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, resident pastor of The Waterbrook Church (TWB) in Lekki, Lagos, has shared how his wife, gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, collapsed during her second pregnancy.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, Pastor Uzochikwa said the incident happened while Chinwo was expecting their second child, whom the couple welcomed in 2025.
According to him, the singer left their room one day and went to their son’s room, where she complained of feeling unwell before collapsing.
He said attempts to revive her were unsuccessful, prompting him to contact gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey.
Recalling the incident, Uzochikwa said Bassey asked him to initiate a video call so he could see Chinwo’s condition. He added that the cleric later came to their home with members of the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team.
“Pastor Nath is a blessing to my family. We talk all the time, and I am honoured to have access to him. I can remember what he did when my wife was pregnant with my second child. She came out of the room and went to my son’s room. She started complaining and collapsed. Her face was dark, and I was confused because she was not responding. I called Pastor Nath, and he said that I should do a video call, and he came with the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team,” he said.
Uzochikwa said Chinwo later regained consciousness after prayers.
He added that Bassey described the incident as a spiritual attack.
The cleric also said he could not imagine the public reaction if his wife had not survived the episode, noting that he had faced criticism when he married the singer.
He further revealed that Chinwo was scheduled to minister at one of Bassey’s programmes the day after the incident occurred.
Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa and Mercy Chinwo got married in August 2022 and welcomed their first child, a son, in 2023.
In August 2025, the couple announced the birth of their second child.
Sharing the news at the time, Chinwo thanked God for the addition to their family and described her husband as “an amazing father of two.”
