Actress Sunshine Rosman has challenged the belief that Nigerian movie stars are wealthy, describing it as one of the most exaggerated misconceptions about the industry.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by actor and filmmaker Baaj Adebule, Sunshine said many actors in Nollywood face financial difficulties despite appearing glamorous on screen and on social media.
According to her, actors who appear financially stable often earn money from businesses and other ventures outside acting.
Rosman said, “The most overrated misconception about Nollywood stars is that we have money. I don’t know why people assume we have money. Some of us do have money, but from other ventures. But many of us are struggling financially.”
Her comments reflect concerns that have been raised repeatedly within the Nigerian film industry about irregular income and poor pay for actors.
Sunshine has featured in a number of Nollywood productions and recently gained attention for her role as Amanda Sparkles in To Kill a Monkey, the Netflix crime thriller created by filmmaker Kemi Adetiba. The series also stars Bucci Franklin, William Benson, Bimbo Akintola and Stella Damasus.
