Nigerian police

Police in Makurdi have arraigned a 23-year-old student of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) for allegedly beating his fellow student to death.

Emeka Maluzie was on Thursday arraigned before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The victim, Francis Ekoli, was until his death a final year student of the institution.

Police prosecutor, Friday Kanshio, said the deceased’s father, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Edet Ekoli, had on May 24 reported to the police that the accused conspired with others still at large, and beat up his son during an altercation.

Mr Kanshio said the boy was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) for medical attention after the beating, but was confirmed dead by doctors.

The suspect’s plea was not taken on Thursday, however, he was remanded at the Federal Prison, Makurdi until his case is mentioned again in court on July 16.
