Kanayo O. Kanayo cancels birthday celebration after INEC declared Tinubu president

Actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has said he is not interested in celebrating his 61st birthday over the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the 2023 presidential election.

The actor, whose preferred candidate was Peter Obi, on Wednesday via Instagram accused INEC of going back on its word to upload election results to its servers via BVAS.

He captioned his Instagram post, “I am not celebrating my birthday today because INEC sold SHAME in the market. God bless you my fans and well-wishers for your support and prayers.”

Kanayo, a lawyer also, said in the video posted to Instagram: “There is no cause for celebration when the hearts of Nigerians are bleeding.

“I don’t want to talk about the amount of money the Federal Government has been allocating to INEC but the fact of the matter is this, Prof Mahmood Yakubu owes Nigerians. Nigerians should be asking Prof Mahmood not just what happened to the transmission (of results) but to refund our money.”

He apologised to those he told that their votes would count, adding that it was not about his preferred candidate losing the election but about “doing the right thing”.

Kanayo, who joined Yul Edochie, E-Money and others to meet Bola Tinubu’s son in the build-up to the polls, appreciated former President Olusegun Obasanjo for calling on INEC to address concerns about disenfranchisement, violence and voter suppression in some parts of the country before continuing with the collation of election results.

“We need to ask him (Prof Yakubu) at what point he changed his mind,” he said, adding “INEC I am saying to you ‘do the right thing.’”

Tinubu won the February 25 presidential election with over 8 million votes.
