Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media Dada Olusegun has criticised those questioning the rescue of the sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and her twin sons.
Mr Olusegun made the remarks in a series of posts on X on Sunday following the rescue of Olaide John-Paul and her children by the Nigeria Police Force.
Mrs John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on June 3 and rescued on Saturday.
Defending the efforts of security agencies, Olusegun said criticism aimed at downplaying the rescue was unfair to law enforcement officers involved in the operation.
“If you find yourself unhappy about the rescue of a woman and her children and jump on every conspiracy to try and downplay the efforts of law enforcement, just know you’re already a terrorist,” he wrote.
He added, “You may not be carrying weapons yet, but your mindset and theirs are essentially the same.”
Olusegun also accused some individuals of politicising the incident and using it to advance political arguments.
In another post, he alleged that some critics were more interested in political debates than the welfare of kidnapping victims.
Responding to claims that politicians in the current administration had criticised insecurity while in opposition, Olusegun said they never celebrated the misfortunes of political opponents.
“Never in our time in opposition did we celebrate gleefully and shamelessly the misfortunes of those who don’t agree with us,” he wrote.
The rescue of Adelabu’s sister and her children has generated reactions online.
While some social media users commended the police for securing their release, others questioned why some kidnapping cases appeared to receive faster attention than others.
The discussions have included comparisons with the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oyo State, where efforts to secure the release of victims have continued.
