Emmanuel Obasi, former husband of actress Judy Austin, has reacted to a post by actor Yul Edochie advising men to leave partners who do not respect them.
In his post, Yul stated that it is “nonsense” for men to tolerate a wife or girlfriend who does not respect them.
He advised men to look for women who give them respect, adding that respect is “non-negotiable”.
“Men, stop tolerating nonsense in the name of marriage or relationship,” he wrote.
“If your wife or girlfriend doesn’t respect you, dump her immediately and get someone who respects you. Your respect as a man is non-negotiable.”
Reacting in a Facebook post, Obasi said respect cannot be forced on anyone. He referenced the Biblical story of Samson and how he became helpless through the trickery of Delilah.
Obasi suggested that men do not necessarily need to behave like “machos” to earn their partner’s respect. He also argued that a sexually weak man can lose a woman’s respect.
“Respect is earned, not forced. I be strong man, na so Delilah take kpai Samson. Delilah was not Samson’s legal wife, but because of expired kp***us, once respected, Samson kpai for nothing. I just tell the story of Samson, nothing more,” he said.
Yul has remained a polarising public figure since April 2022 when he introduced Judy as his second wife and announced they had a child together.
The development drew criticism from many Nigerians and sparked a public rift with his first wife, May Edochie. In August 2023, May filed for divorce and demanded N100 million in damages, citing adultery among other issues.
