Actor Yul Edochie has revealed that he met his estranged first wife May Edochie while they were writing their WAEC GCE examinations as teenagers.
Yul made the revelation while speaking about marriage and the role of men in relationships.
According to him, married men should set boundaries for their wives and avoid giving them “too much liberty.”
“You cannot be a fool for a woman. You must set boundaries. To be a fool is to accept anything she does,” he said.
May had previously spoken about how they met years ago while preparing for their examinations in Enugu.
“We met way back in school, when I went to the East for my university. We didn’t attend the same school. I went to Enugu State University of Science and Technology, while he went to UNIPORT,” she had said.
“But we met in Enugu. We didn’t meet at a party because I was never the party type, I was a bookworm. We met at the GCE centre.
“We were kids when we met. We were teenagers. I can’t remember how old we were when we met, I have to count backwards or something.”
Yul and May got married in 2004 and had four children together before their marriage crisis became public in 2022.
The actor has remained a controversial figure since April 2022 when he introduced actress Judy Austin as his second wife and announced the birth of their son.
The development sparked backlash on social media and drew criticism from May, who later distanced herself publicly from the arrangement.
In August 2023, May filed for divorce at a customary court in Abuja. She also demanded N100 million in damages in a suit which cited adultery. Reports from the proceedings later showed that the court dismissed Yul’s request seeking to strike out the case and challenging the court’s jurisdiction.
Despite the controversy surrounding his family life, Yul has continued to share his views on relationships and marriage on social media, with many of his comments often generating mixed reactions online.
