Jaiye Kuti denies taking swipe at Ajosepo 2 over cinema showtimes

Actress Jaiye Kuti has denied suggestions that her social media post about the cinema showtime of her movie Jaiye Monje The Anniversary was aimed at Ajosepo 2: The Gathering.

The actress had taken to Instagram on Sunday to express concern about the screening schedule of her film.

Sharing a screenshot of the movie’s showtime, she wrote, “AJOSEPOWA tifebaje !!! I’m just a week old at the cinemas, and I’m already out of showtime? Hmmm 🤔 Please, who comes to the cinema at this time of the day to watch movies? #cinemaowners”.

The post sparked speculation online, with some social media users suggesting that her use of the word “Ajosepo” was a reference to Ajosepo 2: The Gathering, the newly released film produced by Bolaji Ogunmola.

Addressing the claims, Jaiye said her comment had been misunderstood.

“I wrote in my language Yoruba AJOSEPO which could mean many things, what I meant was our collaboration with cinemas, yet some people twisted it to mean a movie”.

She maintained that her post was about her concerns over cinema scheduling and not directed at any film or filmmaker.

The clarification comes shortly after Bolaji Ogunmola responded to claims that Ajosepo 2: The Gathering was being accused of sabotaging other films in cinemas. The actress dismissed the allegation, saying she was not trying to undermine anyone’s project and was focused on promoting her own film.

Ajosepo 2: The Gathering, directed by Kayode Kasum, is the sequel to the 2024 family drama Ajosepo. The film features actors including Timini Egbuson, Tomike Adeoye, Mercy Aigbe, Mike Afolarin and Bisola Aiyeola.
