Filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that she made efforts to reach actor Alexx Ekubo before news of his death surfaced online.
Reports of the actor’s death began circulating on Tuesday, although his family had yet to officially confirm the development as of the time of filing this report.
Reacting on her Instagram story, Funke shared an emotional tribute to the late actor.
“I really tried to reach out to see you one more time but guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace Alex.
“Ore mi, like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in peace Alex.”
Alexx’s reported death comes months after concerns were raised by fans over his prolonged absence from social media and public appearances.
Last year, actor IK Ogbonna reassured fans that the actor was healthy despite staying away from the spotlight.
“Alex is very okay. He is in good health, and there is nothing wrong with him. He is just taking a leave because sometimes people want to take time off social media and social gatherings,” IK had said.
He added that the actor had been spending time with close friends and family while focusing on personal projects outside Nollywood.
Born Alex Ekubo Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986, the actor became known for roles in films such as Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, The Bling Lagosians, A Sunday Affair and Omo Ghetto: The Saga. He was also the first runner up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest.
Tributes from colleagues and fans have continued to pour in across social media since news of his death emerged on Tuesday.
