Rapper Laycon has said winning the fifth season of Big Brother Naija played a key role in saving his mother’s life.
Laycon made the remark during an episode of the Echo Room podcast hosted by Teddy A.
“I said it in the house. When I was in the house, my mum was ill,” he said.
“By the time I came out, my mum was close to death.”
He said the outcome of the show made a difference in what followed after he left the house.
“I am saying it categorically now, if I didn’t win that show, If I had gone and came back second, my mum would be dead now,” he said.
Laycon, whose real name is Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, rose to prominence after winning the 2020 edition of Big Brother Naija, where he secured the grand prize with the highest number of votes.
Since then, he has built a career in music and television. He released his debut album Shall We Begin in 2021, followed by other projects including Bioba.
He also released the mixtape ‘Kashimaawoo’, which he dedicated to his late father, reflecting on personal experiences and loss.
