Headies threatens to disqualify Portable over death threat to co-nominees

Singer Portable

The organisers of the Headies Awards have threatened disqualify music artiste Portable over his death threat to fellow nominees of the 15th edition.

The award organisers said this in a statement on HipTV, on Friday, May 27.

In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday May 25, Portable claimed the other nominees cannot defeat him.

He further threatened to kill anyone who wins any of the categories in his place.

He wrote: “I’m still the owner of the rookie of the year award. Who doesn’t know Zazuu? Aboki, Hausa, Igbo, who doesn’t know my song? Even those abroad listen to me. All those awards, I own them. Whoever is given those awards apart from me, I’ll ask them to kill the person. I’ll just ask them to kill you.

“Give unto Caesar what is for Caesar. My award, give it to me. Don’t give my award to another person, if you do, you will die.”

Reacting in its public announcement, The Headies said it might be forced to disqualify the singer if he fails to retract his statement and issue an apology on his social media pages.

“We have notified the Nigerian police of Mr. Okokiola’s actions to fellow nominees,” the organisers stated.

“Also, demand for the immediate retraction of the video as well as a written apology to nominees in both categories and to The Headies has been made.

“Should Mr. Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law.

“The general public are hereby implored to disregard the video and stop the dissemination of same in the public space,” the statement added.

Portable was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.
